Tim Galarneau serves as the essential needs training and education co-director for the UC Essential Needs Research, Training, and Promising Practices Consortium at the Center for Economic Justice and Action (CEJA) at UC Santa Cruz. His work strives to advance systemwide basic needs efforts across campuses, intersegmental engagement, and nationally through Education and Training efforts.

Recently, he also spoke with Bioneers, a non-profit organization dedicated to enacting social change to solve pressing issues for people and the planet. His interview discusses the challenges faced by low-income and marginalized college students, particularly food insecurity, which can hinder their education and well-being. Galarneau emphasizes the need for structural solutions to support students, such as Basic Needs programs, which offer free food, financial assistance, and meal swipes, benefiting thousands of students.
